Samsung has become the most popular OEM for making popular Android smartphones. They have been incredibly successful with the little robot we all have come to love or hate, dishing out smartphones like the original Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and the Galaxy S III into many consumers pockets. Samsung has been very kind to public and shared some figures on just how many Galaxy S IIIs have been sold in the first five months of their existence. Over 30 million to be exact. While these numbers seem quite small when compared to the iPhone as an individual model, it is nothing to look ignore.

Based on a chart provided by Samsung over at Samsung Tomorrow, an S III is sold every 45 seconds. Samsung has sold enough S IIIs to cover the surface area of 12 Colosseums, which combined weigh as much as 100 Humpback Whales, and stacked on end would be roughly 29 Mount Everests tall — for those who want a more visual on how many 30 million units actually amount to in a physical level.

At this point we expect to see the Galaxy S III to continue to sell well with Christmas just around the corner. We don’t expect to see the Galaxy S IV until Mobile World Congress 2013 but we do expect to see some Samsung-related news this year. According to a report from The Australian Channel News, sources based in Asia have said Samsung will be revealing a complete brand refresh this coming January — we are extremely excited to see what the Korean company has in store for each of its divisions.

The rebranding effort will be led by Scott Bedbury, who is famous for working with large global iconic brands like Nike and Starbucks among other companies. Samsung has goals to break out of the Asian market and make a statement to the world that they are a global force to be reckoned with. There is no doubt the company has a lot of influence in many countries around the world.

It appears Rogers will be coming out with new “Simplified Pricing” plans that according to an internal document, will include 3 new options that will include “unlimited talk, text, and internet.” At this point we have no word on the availability of these plans or the price but what we do know is Rogers has new plans for the holiday season. Below we have a breakdown of the plans we do know about.

Talk, Text & Internet 1GB:
- Unlimited Local Talk
- Unlimited Messaging
- 1GB Wireless Internet (possibly the new term for data and matches their latest brand direction)
- Available on Monthly and 3-year terms

Talk, Text & Internet 3GB:
- Unlimited Local Talk
- Unlimited Messaging
- 3GB Wireless Internet (possibly the new term for data)
- Available on Monthly and 3-year terms

Talk, Text & Internet 5GB:
- Unlimited Canadian Long Distance
- Unlimited Messaging
- 5GB Wireless Internet (possibly the new term for data)
- Available on Monthly and 3-year terms

If you’re in the market to renew your plan or sign up for a new plan perhaps it is best to wait and see what the holidays brings in terms of plans that require a 3-year contract. The holiday brings a lot of promotions from each carrier so it would be smart to compare what each provider has to offer.

Apple has started to take pre-orders for the 7.9-inch iPad mini along with the fourth generation iPads.

If you haven’t read or heard already we will recap you with the breakdown in pricing. The iPad mini starts at $329 for the base 16GB WiFi only model, $429 for the 32GB, and $529 for the 64GB. If you are looking for a cellular version of this tablet, the cost increases by $132 for each model and will be compatible on Rogers, Bell, and TELUS.

By the looks of it, the White WiFi only versions of the iPad mini is the most popular one as shipping dates have been backtracked to two weeks, but the black version will arrive at your doorstep around November 2nd. Apple also notes that you are able to pre-order the WiFi + LTE version but they won’t ship the device until “late november”.

So there you have it folks. The iPad mini is real in the flesh and a handful of our peers have opt for the iPad mini over the traditional iPad due to its ease of one hand use. Are you going out to pick up one of these bad boys? or will you be getting the fourth generation iPad.?

Does everyone still remember the open source webOS operating system that use to grace the company once known as Palm-HP? The open source platform may make a surprise big screen debut at January at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), in Las Vegas, Nevada. A new report is claiming LG will use the software to underpin a new Smart TV platform.

According to webOS Nation, sources from Gram (the remaining HP/Palm employees still overseeing the software) that LG has picked up the operating system to replace the aging NetCast SmartTV interface.

The Korean company may possibly sever its ties with the unpopular Google TV platform largely due to an apparent displeasure with Google’s terms of use. According to the source, LG has signed an agreement with HP to use the service earlier this year. Since then, engineers at the two companies have reportedly been collaborating — LG sending in its dual-core L9-powered motherboards to the webOS team for in-house testing.

While the latest reintroduction of webOS would definitely be one of the most interesting and exciting stories to come out of CES 2013, it is unlikely that will be a full launch. With that said, HP announced that the first version of Open webOS was complete and released to the public. In addition, the company is looking to increase the headcount in the team with 54 new job openings. These developments point to a lot of work ahead for the platform as it needs a lot more work to be ready for the grand stage.

Interestingly, the company stated that it still plans to utilize the operating system for future smartphones and tablets, despite the failed attempts with the HP TouchPad and Palm Pre 3.

At this point webOS is still in its infancy stage in terms of consumer-readiness. However we are definitely excited to see what they have to offer the market in months and years ahead. WebOS was definitely a very appealing platform with great multi-tasking abilities (like those found on the QNX-based Blackberry PlayBook).

Let us know what you think about webOS possibly making a return in the consumer electronics market. Leave all your comments down below.

Samsung inevitably will bring 1080p displays to smartphones in the first half of 2013. According to SamMobile, Samsung has already started production of its prototype in one of its manufacturing facilities, and aims to bring it to market as soon as possible, perhaps just in time for the debut of the next Galaxy S superphone (IV).

Industry rivals HTC and Sony have already showcased their 1080p goodness and Korea’s 2nd largest electronics manufacturer LG is slated to introduce 1080 True IPS displays in coming months. Moving forward, we suspect Samsung is last to join the party, but we feel they will launch their product with a huge bang since Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S line has such a huge following. We are not entirely sure whether or not the manufacturing process for 1080p Super AMOLED screens is harder or they are just ironing out the kinks. All we can guarantee is that Samsung’s next generation displays will be very impressive. With the way display size is trending right now in the market place it will be interesting to see if the Korean electronics giant can keep the resolution under 5-inches.

If Samsung increases the display size to 5-inches for the Samsung Galaxy S IV we are concerned it will enter phablet territory and can draw a lot of confusion for consumers. We do however feel that Samsung should work on downsizing the bezel around the screen, keeping it roughly the same size as the current Galaxy S III.

Leave your comments down below on what you think of Android smartphones having 1080p displays. See you in the discussion below!

If you are in the market for a new iMac and RAM upgrades is part of your future plans, it may be worth it to prepare enough money to purchase the 27-inch iMac. According to the Apple Store website, user accessible slots are a premium available only on the larger, pricier version. With smaller and thinner devices coming to market, it is getting increasingly harder to replace or modify internals of any gadget and the latest iteration of the iMac is no exception.

The 27-inch iMac is upgradeable up to 32GB of RAM, while the 21.5-inch iMac is Apple factory-configurable to 16GB (8GB standard on both models). Customers can purchase the iMac online and have it speced to your liking before they ship it off to you, but as you probably know, the price can increase quite a few pretty pennies. The 21.5-inch iMac starts at $1,299 before any configurations or sales tax and will be delivered in November and December.

Let us know in the comments below what you think about the latest version of the iconic iMac and whether or not you will be taking plunge and purchasing one the day of release.
