Nokia acquires Smarterphone — designer of feature phone operating systems

Nokia has purchased a Norwegian software company, Smarterphone, that designs super-efficient feature phone operating systems. There is no doubt that Nokia is looking to revitalize its feature phones in emerging markets — with no fruits of the purchase to likely hit North America, as Nokia focuses on launching its Windows Phone portfolio with partner Microsoft. Nokia N9 gets a UI tweak — landscape orientation mode

Any Nokia N9 owners out there? well you’re in for a treat. There’s now a tweak for the MeeGo-based smartphone that can make it go into landscape mode. The mode works in the three main navigation screens and can be accessed through N9Tweak, an unofficial mod that can be downloaded through the phone’s web browser. Compatible apps will also launch in landscape orientation..

T-Mobile launching Nokia Lumia 710 on January 11th, 2012

  The Nokia Lumia 710 is coming to T-Mobile on January 11th, 2012. The carrier held an event in New York City which was hosted by the carrier, showcasing the upcoming Nokia Windows Phone handset. While it’s the entry-level Windows Phone device out of the two (other being Nokia Lumia 800), we couldn’t help but feel at $49.99 the Lumia 710 is a downright steal.

The white Nokia N9 now available in Finland and selected countries

The white Nokia N9 first debuted at Nokia World back in October and now the Finnish company has finally announced its availability. The N9 will also come in three versions — black, cyan and magenta. The handset is priced at €560 (about $742), and comes with as much as 64GB of internal memory. The only difference between the white version and the others is the gloss finish instead.
