Current state of webOS does not excite the hardware makers — certainly not app developers

We now know HP CEO Meg Whitman has made the decision to keep webOS alive and in the form of open source. It will live as a platform for other hardware manufacturers to build upon. As we said in a previous article, HP is not going to re-enter the smartphone market anymore but will in some capacity still play look towards building webOS-based tablets.

In an interview with The Verge today, HP CEO Meg Whitman discussed the company’s plans for future webOS-based HP tablets. Now that webOS is open sourced, it will only be limitless as to how many hardware manufacturers can get on-board with pushing the mobile platform aside from HP themselves. “The answer to that is yes but what I can’t tell you is whether that will be in.

HP CEO Meg Whitman and company has finally decided on the fate of webOS today. The platform will join the open source community and will be an “active participant and investor in the project”. The company is likely to invest a large sum of money into promoting the open source platform in hopes to create developer awareness.

HP CEO Meg Whitman calls all-hands on deck for a meeting tomorrow

PreCentral reports that HP CEO Meg Whitman has called a meeting for tomorrow, a gathering that is likely to decide the future of webOS. Whitman is a day late on her promise as she promised back on November 8th she would decide on the fate of the operating system within three to four weeks. At this point the platform can go either way. I sure hope webOS lives on with proper development as.

When the HP TouchPad went on a fire sale, everyone did not hesitate to pick up the webOS-powered tablet and when rumors surfaced that there was a 7-inch smaller sibling people were excited to see this come to stores at liquidation prices. The 7-inch tablet goes by the name of TouchPad Go — basically a smaller version of the ill-fated TouchPad that never had the chance to make an impact.
